Profile

Darby Architects, P.C., located near Vail, Colorado, was founded by Ann Darby, AIA in 2005. Ann based her firm on simple ideas; designing with a conscience for the environment, culture, and the way people live. Most of our work is local, including homes and ranch structures throughout the Vail Valley such as Cordillera, Lake Creek, Heritage Park, Singletree, and Vail.
Committed to green architecture, we embrace the principles of sustainability by designing environmentally conservative and energy efficient buildings.
We also believe a building should be reflective of its site, climate, and culture. Our designs respond to their site by stepping with the slope, opening to the views, and expanding to the outdoors. By orientation to the sun and prevailing winds, our homes can adapt to the local climate by passively heating and cooling throughout the seasons. We look to regional traditions for simple forms and use local materials that tie the building to its roots; connecting the natural and built environment, people and cultural traditions.
At Darby Architects, every site and building is different, as each evolves from the individual needs of the client. We listen, share, listen some more, and together arrive to a concept.
